Innovative

A product offering that is anything but standard

As the first provider to introduce a flexible menu of benefits over 15 years ago, we were setting the standard then. Today our product range is even better.

Our Self Assurance and Pegasus plans are not just a 'one size fits all' solution. Your clients can choose from a range of options to suit their personal requirements. And whatever changes happen in your client's life, their plan can change with them.

Exceptional products as standard

Not all protection products are the same. Some plans look good value, until you read the detail. We believe in providing exceptional cover at competitive prices. We are one of the few providers to offer both term and whole of life plans with benefits such as*:

  • Critical Illness cover buyback - additional critical illness cover after a claim
  • Unemployment benefit - a valuable lifeline at a difficult time
  • Children's critical illness cover - at no extra cost
  • Early forms of cancer cover - additional cover for ductal carcinoma in situ and low grade prostate cancer.

* Terms and conditions apply, see product literature for details.

The team is highly experienced in advising across a range of corporate areas and each member works closely with IFAs to provide training, seminars, technical support and sales development.

Tax and trust team

We know that dealing with trusts can be complicated

Therefore, we have put a team in place who can give you all the help you need for general, and product specific, trust and taxation questions. We will give you access to the team regardless of whether you have submitted business or not.

Rewarding

Raising the standard

We have one of the widest and most encompassing range of illness definitions in the market. And we have recently added more.

Definitions play an important part in the products that we provide for your clients. We carefully select our definitions and take pride in the knowledge that our recent improvements provide cover for modern day illnesses and treatments and, therefore, are more likely to offer greater relevance and value to your clients.

This breadth of cover has allowed us to pay out over £1 billion in life and critical illness claims over the past eight years1.

1 Scottish Provident life, terminal and critical illness claims paid 1 January 2003 - 31 December 2010.

We are giving back even more

We provide additional cover for two early forms of cancer - ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), an early form of breast cancer, and low grade prostate cancer2.

These are automatically included on Self Assurance plans with critical illness cover at no extra cost and as additional cover on top of the main critical illness benefit.

And for DCIS we cover lumpectomy as well as other treatments, which is one step further than most providers who only cover the less common mastectomy treatment.

2 For full definitions see product literature.

We have improved the quality of our cover

We have introduced five completely new definitions, two of which are new to the critical illness market.

  • Encephalitis - resulting in permanent symptoms
  • Intensive care - requiring mechanical ventilation for 10 consecutive days3
  • Multiple system atrophy - resulting in permanent symptoms
  • Pneumonectomy - removal of a complete lung3
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus - with severe complications

3 Intensive care and pneumonectomy are completely new critical illness definitions for the critical illness market.

Our definitions have improved

Two more of our existing definitions are now ABI+: stroke and third degree burns. This means we have nine definitions that exceed the industry standard, five of which are in Scottish Provident's top ten reasons for claiming4.

At Scottish Provident we are committed to providing more definitions beyond ABI standard demonstrating that we are prepared to push the boundaries. By going above and beyond the set industry standards we can offer your clients added cover at no additional expense.

4 Scottish Provident critical illness claims paid, 1 January to 31 December 2010.

Competitive

New competitive pricing

Our new competitive pricing ensures we are even more rewarding. So you get our best possible cover for your clients at the best possible price.

A recent re-price of our life rates saw over half of our rates reduced.

And from today we have reduced 99% of our rates for critical illness cover so you get our best possible cover for your clients at the best possible price.

You can view the new rates on the leading portals or on our IFA webcentre.

And there is more to come. We are committed to providing exceptional products and services at competitive prices.

Commission terms

In order to invest even more in our proposition by adding product features and ensuring our prices are as competitive as they can be, we will be changing our commission terms.

We want to encourage sustainable, long term business with both you and your clients and from 1st August 2011 we will only accept business on a four year earnings period.

Any quotes from Scottish Provident, on or after this date, will be on a four year earnings basis.

Below are answers to some questions you may have regarding the move to a four-year earnings commission basis only.

Q:Why have you made this move to a four-year earnings commission basis only?Answer

A:

We want to encourage sustainable, long-term business with you and your clients. Having moved to a four-year only basis from 1 August 2011 has allowed us to further improve the benefits that we offer you and your clients. These improvements include enhanced levels of commission, the launch of further service improvements and the delivery of more competitive prices.

Q:I have a two-year and four-year account, will I now have two four-year accounts?Answer

A:

From 1 August, all Scottish Provident business is on a four-year earnings basis only. This means all existing Scottish Provident two-year accounts were migrated to become four-year accounts. If you already had a four-year account then you will now see 2 x four-year accounts. The actual account numbers will not change. Should this cause you any problems, please get in touch with our agency management team (contact details at the end).

Q:How will this impact my commission statement?Answer

A:

There will be no changes to your commission statements, and we will continue to report each account separately.

Q:Can an agency who previously had one account on two years and another on four years request to receive one statement as opposed to two?Answer

A:

Please contact us on 0845 300 3545 (option 3), and we will be happy to alter your account structure where necessary.

Q:Does this change to four-year earnings impact my terms of business agreement with you?Answer

A:

No, this is not a change to our terms of business. However, the terms for Scottish Provident and Bright Grey were harmonised with effect from 1 August and they are available on the Bright Grey and Scottish Provident websites.

Q:How do I contact you if I have any further questions?Answer

A:

If there are questions we have not answered, please contact your relationship manager in the first instance. If you don't have contact details to hand, please contact our sales team.
